6/2006 - LITTLE GIRL SMILE
I've got a new record in the can, and if everything goes like it should, the discs will be available for general consumption in the next few weeks. As far as shows go, June's almost gone, but before it goes, I'll be at the Strawberry festival in Bellevue, on Saturday and Sunday,(6/24-25). Then on Saturday, July 1st I'll be at the Lake Union boat festival. For additional information, directions, show times, and other gigs, visit my calendar.
5/2006 - IT MIGHT AS WELL BE SPRING
I've got loads going on in May from a personal standpoint, and thus I'm keeping a very light music schedule. For June I've got a couple of local shows on the calendar already, and I'll be adding to them very soon. The summer festival season is right around the corner, and I'm looking forward to all that fun. For frequent updates, and details on future shows peep my calendar page. See ya.
4/2006 - MARCHING OUT
Thank you to everyone who came out for the fun show on March 25th. Y'all made my evening. Note: The show originally scheduled for April 8th got moved back to Saturday, April 15th ... so get your taxes done, come out early to get the seats by the 'fireplace,' catch the show, and chase the bass with a cool glass of local wine and one of the heavenly desserts. Trust me, you'll be glad you did. For other dates, times and directions peep my calendar page.
3/2006 - MOONLIGHT IN MARCH
Following the February events in Honolulu, I've got some pretty cool shows. I'll be at Cafe Luna on Vashon. This is an all new venue for me, so I'm anxious to fill up that place with bass. Prior to that show, I'll be doing some radio promotion on Voice of Vashon ... so when I get more details on that I'll post them here. After that I've got shows at the Bellevue Art Museum (3/10), the Spotted Cow (3/11), ElDiablo (3/14), and the P&G (3/25). For times and directions stop by the calendar page.
1/2006 - YEAR OF THE DOG
So we all made it through '05 and I'm looking for only good stuff in '06. This month, I've got a few local shows so come on down and check us out. For dates and directions stop by the calendar page. Note: the show at the P&G on Jan. 21st was cancelled due to "unforeseen circumstances." Sorry to all those intending to come out for that.
12/2005 - MERRY CHRISTMAS
Thanks to everyone who continues to support me in this hair-brained solo bass thing. I appreciate you all buying cd's, attending performances, collaborating, jamming, but most of all a HUGE thank you for just listening. Anytime someone takes time out to stop by and listen to my music, it is a big deal to me. Closing out 2005, I've got a couple engagements left in December ... One is at the Columbia City Gallery on Friday (12/2), and the other is on Friday (12/9), at the Everett Library / Espresso Americano. For directions, times, etc. have a look at my calendar page. Merry Christmas.
10 - 11/2005 - WILMA!
I just just heard from my good friend, Frank Smith who experienced Hurricane (or was it tropical storm?) Wilma first hand. It was good to hear from him, and that aside from the 100+ mph winds, and his street being flooded with water, all is well. As for me, I've got some local shows leading me into the end of the year. For dates, directions and times go to my calendar page and have a look.
9/2005 - STILL SUMMER
August had me playing at some new venues. It was my first time at the Paragon as a soloist, which was somewhat bitter-sweet. A friend of mine who lived in that area recently passed away. He would often come to see me play when I'd play in his neighborhood. He would tell me, "When you get into the Paragon, I'll be there." So two days after he passed, on a relatively quiet Sunday night, I was there playing music, thinking about him ... also on the bill that night was Melissa Reaves, an excellent guitarist/singer-songwriter from N. Carolina. I think that George would have enjoyed listening to her too. As for the upcoming shows, I'll be back down at the gorgeous Alderbrook Resort on Friday, September 2nd ... other shows this weekend include the Tumbleweed Music festival on Sunday in Richland, and on Monday I'll be back at the Evergreen State Fair in Monroe. I've been so busy keeping up with all the shows this summer that I've completely put off looking to add dates to my calendar ... which is OK by me. A few short breaks sound kinda good right now ... as always take a look at my calendar page for any shows that might interest you ... I hope to see you out there.
8/2005 - ROOT BEER FLOAT
July was crammed with all sorts of stuff, and thus it flippin' flew by. Awwwgust looks to be only slightly more manageable. The new venue at the Bellevue Art Museum is excellent. The PKD (Polycyctic Kidney Disease) benefit was a joy on many levels. The weather was superb, and it was all for an excellent cause. I enjoyed sharing the day and chatting with some new friends. This month I've got another show at the Bellevue Arts Museum, a date or two at the Evergreen State Fair, and a few nights at the new Alderbrook Resort and Spa. For dates and directions check out my calendar page.
7/2005 - JULY JAMMIN IN THE DUPLEX
June was busy. At one point I had three gigs in a 24 hour period. All three were enjoyable, but between you and me, that's a bit too much for me. My involvement at the Strawberry Festival was great ... good sound company, great festival staff, and of course strawberry shortcake for breakfast. July's got me headed back for my a trip east o' the mountains for a few appearances at Yakima's excellent folklife festival. I've said this before, but it's true, the Yakima Folklife Festival is one of the best festivals for music I've ever been to. The venues are perfect, and the well organized schedule is jam-packed with good music. This year I was named "#1 Best of Festival" ... I'm not entirely clear as to how this happened, or what it means, but I think it's fun being called "#1" and "Best," so I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts. Following that, I've got a couple shows in Bellevue ... one at the Art Museum on the 16th, and another at the 6th Street Fair on the 29th. If you need directions, dates and/or times, you can get 'em on my calendar page.
6/2005 - MY ADVENTURE
Spring brought me a few new tunes which I'm working on. On my June calendar, I'll be doing the Columbia City Beatwalk (@ Tutta Bella) on the 3rd, Espresso Americano (Everett) on the 4th and then a show at the Hopvine on the 25th. For dates and directions check out my calendar page.
5/2005 - AFTER THE RAIN
Spring has sprung and now everything is wet up here in the NW. The road test with the new bass has concluded. The result is that it just didn't feel right in my hands, and now it has gone on to someone who will enjoy it much more than I. My few gigs in April were great. I was back down at Jazzbones to open the show for Michael Powers and his group. It's been a while since I opened up for him, but he just keeps getting better and better. They've got an excellent new bass player (Osama Afifi) with them now, and he already sounds like he's been playing with them for a long time. As for me, I've got a few private engagements in May, and then in June I'll be doing the Columbia City Beatwalk (@ Tutta Bella) on the 3rd, Espresso Americano (Everett) on the 4th and then a show at the Hopvine on the 25th. For directions, dates and times take a look at my calendar.
4/2005 - NOTHING GETS BY YOU
A few of you have asked, "Hey bud, what's with the new bass you've been playing?" Well, I've been trying out a walnut bass. So far my impression is this ... the sound is outstanding. I think that this can be attributed mostlly to the piezo / magnetic pickups and 18 volt on-board electronics. I'll report back as I log in more miles on this test drive ... but so far, so good. As for the April shows, take a look at my calendar, and if something looks good, stop by and say hi.
3/2005 - MARCHING OUT
The February highlight for me was returning to Jazzbones to open the show for Walter Trout. The changes they've made there to the sound system and stage area are big improvements. As for me in March, I'll be back at Espresso Americano (Everett) on the 5th, and at Crossroads (Bellevue) on the 24th. For directions, or more show dates take a look at my calendar.
2/2005 - SEVERE WEATHER CENTER
The wild weather during this past month has made it kind of crazy. The early January extreme cold / snow / ice stroms made it somewhat 'entertaining' getting to and from the shows ... and now in the course of a few days it feels like spring. January was considerably busy, but the result of that was playing a lot of music and meeting a bunch of music lovers. Thanks to everyone who came out to see and hear me play. The show at the Evergreen Coffeehouse to benefit the Tsunami Relief Fund was a high note for me. The venue and people there are among the best hosts one could hope for. Thanks to Dennis Griffiths, Jeff Nicely, and all of the other great musicians for sharing their talents. For future show dates, times and directions, scope out my calendar. Take care out there ... and don't follow too close.
1/2005 - SNOW WONDER
Before '05 begins, I want to thank everyone who has stopped by a performance, picked up a cd, or just visited my little home on the web. So far this year I've got just a few shows online for '05, but I'll be adding more in the very near future. For details check my schedule. Until then, stay warm.
12/2004 - WHAT MONTH IS THIS
November was a great month for me. Thanks to everyone who came out to the shows ... I enjoyed playing the new venues and meeting and playing with some new friends. Now that the holidays are all around us, we'll be flooded holiday song goodness. I'm going to try and enjoy it, as It won't be too long until even the hippest version of White Christmas will make me want to slit my wrists with an overcooked gingerbread cookie. For December, I've got several shows coming up. Most noteably I'll be back at the Pink Door on Sundays. For directions, dates and details, stop by my calendar page. If I don't see you ... enjoy the holidays. ^_^
11/2004 - RADIO RADIO
I think November is going to be pretty fun, as I've got a couple of new venues to play at, and a live radio broadcast. I'll be in the KSER 90.7 FM studio on Wednesday, Nov.10th at 11:00am to chat a little, and play some music. You can listen live on the internet at the KSER website, or if you're in the Puget Sound area, and you own an "actual working AM/FM radio" you can dial it up at 90.7 FM. For details and show times, take a look at my calendar page, and see what you can see.
10/2004 - CLOSE TO HOME
Now that the summer is over, I'll be staying pretty close to home and playing around town for the next few weeks. I've got a few shows on my calendar now and I'll likely be adding more in the next few days.
9/2004 - PURPLE PEOPLE
The Prince show with Maceo Parker was well...really more like a Vegas production than any concert I've seen. As for me, the busy summer has finally slowed down enough for me to catch my breath. I'm home for a while now, and I'll be banging my bass in some of my usual haunts. I'm happy to be returning to the Evergreen State Fair...two sets on Friday, 9/3 and one on Monday, 9/6. Come on down, see the pigs, ride the scrambler, grab some funnel cakes, see me do my thing, and then finish the day off right with a demolition derby. Yee-haw!
8/2004 - KEEPING UP
July was that crazy-busy, when you find yourself scouring the calendar for a 'time-out.' The annual trip to Yakima was as good as it gets. I met some very special musicians while I was over there, and I think that most of the other performers would agree that some of the best music lovers live in Yakima. Two Louies, a music magazine based out of Portland was kind enough to catch a show, and publish a cool review. If you want to check it out, you can read it here. Until next time, I do have some local performances on my calendar. If one looks good to you, come on down.
7/2004 - EARLY RETURNS
My sincere thanks to all of you for the enthusiastic response on the new CD. I like it too ;] ... I've got a short break before I'm off to central Washington. The Yakima Folklife festival every year is one of my favorite music festivals. The evening venues in town are low-key and the perfect size for me, and as for the daytime outdoor stages ... even if the temperature gets over 100, the audience is always cool. Other than that I've got a few other shows on my calendar. Stop by if you get a chance.
6/2004 - IT'S ABOUT SUMMERTIME
Thank you to everyone who've been inquiring about the new CD. Right now, it's available through me and through CD Baby. As for performances, I've got a few private engagements and a bunch of local shows on deck. We'll see you out there.
4/2004 - CD RELEASE
At long last the new CD is complete. The artwork has been approved, and I just received the master back. I expect the finished CDs to be ready to ship by June. A formal release announcement will preclude a small release party. Until then, have a look at my calendar, and if something looks good to you, stop by.
3/2004 - EVER THE OPTIMIST
I know that Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow and all, but I've been noticing a subtle change in the climate. Spring is whispering to me, "I'm coming." More work on the cd is needed. I've got one show this month, and I'll be adding more as we go. See ya 'round.
2/2004 - WAIKOLOA WAVES
January has been cold and wet, so the short time I was in Hawaii, was a blessing. I forgot what it was to be able to walk outside in the early morning hours with short sleeves. Side projects have got me busy right now. I do have a show or two this month, so be sure to check my performances page for dates and times.
1/2004 - TIME IN 2004
Well, we made it through another year. In the early goings of 2004 I've decided to slow down my performance calendar a bit. Instead of two to three shows a week, I'm going to schedule longer breaks between performances for while so I can finish up some things. The CD project is still happening. I can't wait to have it done, but there's still work to do. In the mean-time, I've got a couple of performances this month, and more to come. As always thanks for your support and I'll look forward to seeing you out there.
12/2003 - HAPPY HOLIDAYS
Peace.
11/2003 - MILES BEHIND
Buckle up...here come the holidays. Things are extremely busy and November is looking like it will be just as crazy. This month, I'll be playing Sunday evenings at the Pink Door, so stop by for a drink, or grab a bite (pick anything on the menu...it's all good)...just make sure you say hi. Check my performances page for dates and times. Go Seahawks.
10/2003 - CONCERT @ DUSK
To all of those who are asking about the new recordings, "Thank you for your patience and for your continued interest." I'll have something special for you when I'm done. As for October, I'm looking forward to returning the Pink Door on Sunday evenings, and playing at a few other of my favorite venues. Check my performances page for dates and times. Hopefully I'll see you out there.
9/2003 - FAIR FUN
Never has there been a Seattle summer like this...seemingly endless sunshine. This past month I enjoyed playing at several venues, some new and some old. On August 3rd I had the privledge of opening the show for Dave Hole at Jazzbones. For those who don't know about Dave, he's a tireless slide guitarist from Australia, who absolutely lit Tacoma on fire that night. As for September, I'll spend much of it completing the new cd. I've got a few shows coming up, and I'll be adding more as we go 'once more into the breach dear friends.' Thanks for checking in. Good day.
8/2003 - WHERE'S THAT RAINY DAY
July usually treats me well, and this year was no exception. Between my regular shows, the festival slots and the cd, I was pretty busy. August looks to have some more breathing room, so I'm looking forward to a 'little' bit of down time. Work on the cd continues, and I'll likely be adding some performance dates as we go. Until then stay out of trouble.
6-7/2003 - AND SO IT GOES
OK, so I missed a month, who's really keeping track anyway? The audio for the new cd is nearly finished. All of the tracks will be recordings of live performances. Most of them are in the can, however, I want to add one or two more, so I'll be recording a bit more and grab them as I go. That's the plan right now anyway. People who know me, are well aware that my 'plans' are actually more 'vague guidelines.' Enough of that. In the meantime, I've got some fun shows coming up, and I hope to see YOU out there.
5/2003 - TAPE IS ROLLING
Work on the new cd has begun. I forgot just how "fun" the recording process can be. There are a few performance dates this month. Including one at a new venue for me, Kim's Nightclub on May 15th. Check my calendar for more information. See you around town.
4/2003 - SPRING TIME
As far as I'm concerned, it's spring. Planning for my next CD is underway, and I'm working on a variety of other music projects that have been popping up here and there. More on all that later. I've got a few April shows, and will be adding more in the next few days. Thanks for stopping by. See ya!
3/2003 - JAZZBONES
While I had a little more time on my hands this past month, I really wasn't able to catch my breath much. I had a SUPER night at Jazzbones opening the evening for 2003 Grammy Nominee, Alvin Youngblood Hart. If you were there, you know what I'm talking about. After that night, the rest of the month was a blur. I've got a ton of demo songs recorded, and I'm beginning to plan my next CD release. I expect it to be completed and available this summer. In the mean time I've got a few performances this month on my calendar, and I'll likely be adding some in the near future. So, if you're interested, check my performances page often. Until then, be careful out there amongst them English.
2/2003 - BUSY
One notable January highlight was returning to perform at Jazzbones to open the evening for Michael Powers and his band. Thank you to Michael, Sandy, Dave and everyone at Jazzbones, for making that evening fun. Due to January being one of the busiest months I've experienced, I'm determined to keep my February schedule lighter. For show dates and times, visit my performances page. CUL8R.
1/2003 - A BRAND NEW YEAR
2002 was very good to me. During my travels I met some great people, and had several opportunities to play in many new venues. The New Year's Eve performance at Jazzbones was a highlight for me. I was the opener for the Duffy Bishop band, and so after my set, I got to watch their excellent show. A big "Thank You" to Duffy, Chris, Don and the rest of the band for letting me in on the fun. As for 2003, I've got several dates set up for January. For specific dates and times, go to the PERFORMANCES page. Take care y'all.
12/2002 - HOLIDAZE
November flew by in a hurry...at least it seemed like that to me. This month should be just as quick. I've got plenty of performances on my calendar. I'm happy to be returning to the Pink Door on Wednesdays this month. Their excellent food and great atmosphere makes it one of my favorite places to play. For dates, directions and times check out my performances calendar.
11/2002 - AUTUMN ARRIVES
For those of you who have inquired, I'm now working on a couple of video projects, out of which will come some live performance video. As soon as I have some clips, I'll post a sample or two here. I've also got several solo performances this month, two of which are at new venues for me. The first one is at the Intermission Pub in Kirkland on November 9th, and the other is at Tims Basement, a venue in Yakima. For directions and times, visit the PERFORMANCES page. Hope to see you out there.
10/2002 - MORE RECORDINGS
September was a busy month full of great opportunities. I continue to record many of my live performances, some of which I'll make available on the RECORDINGS page. This month (October) I"ll be playing a few private parties and some performances at various local spots. For a schedule, go to the PERFORMANCES page.
9/2002 - LIVE RECORDINGS
August was a treat, due in large part to a great show at Jazzbones. I ended up sharing the bill with Rebecca Kilgore's group (Rebecca Kilgore, Eddie Erickson, Dan Barrett, Joel Forbes) and Pearl Django. Also, I returned to recording many of my live performances. In response to some requests, I'll add some more MP3s to the recordings page. These are recordings of some of the newer songs that (up until now) you've only heard me play live. Also, I have several performances coming up this month, including a return to Saffron Cow on September 28th.
8/2002 - SUMMER FESTIVALS
July was a great month for me. Both theYakima Folklife Festival, and the Lake Union Boat Festival were outstanding. The heat in Yakima was scorching, but we all had great fun anyhow. I met some wonderful people, all of whom I look forward to seeing again someday, somewhere. In addition to that, I had a great time on the road in Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. Now I'm back, and I'll be spending some time working on different projects including recording with other musicians...more on that to come. I also have several performances coming up later on in the month, starting with the Alpine Days festival in N. Bend on Sunday 8/11, at 2pm. Take care and have a fantastic summer!
7/2002 - SUMMER FESTIVALS
This month, I'm fortunate enough to play at two of my favorite festivals, the Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival, and the Yakima Folklife Festival. The organizers who put these festivals together do a fantastic job creating an atmosphere that, historically has been very favorable to the listeners. I go as much to perform, as to listen to the other performers. In addition, I'll be playing a show at Friend's on Friday July 19th with Paul Hanover. Paul is a gifted singer/songwriter who is currently finishing up his solo CD. This performance is a great way to get a sneak preview, before the CD is released later this summer. I hope to see you there.
6/2002 - COFFEE ANYONE???
Despite the construction scene in and around the Seattle Center, the NW folklife festival turned out great. Thanks to everyone who came out to support me at the Experience Music Project - EMP. The weather on Friday was unbelievable - one of those sunny Seattle afternoons, that the rest of the world envies. With the close of the NW folklife festival, Summer's off and running, and I'll pretty much be living in coffee shops this month. One notable addition to my calendar is the June 21st show at Shakabrah Java. Performing at this venue was so fun last month, I had to get back. Oh, yeah, and before I forget, tall americano, no room.
5/2002 - SECURE ONLINE CD PURCHASES & ADDED PERFORMANCE DATES
When The Drums Stop, my cd release is now available for purchase online on CD Baby. On May 10th I will perform two sets at Shakabrah Java in Tacoma, previewing my CD release. I will be returning to the Matrix in Chehalis to perform at the Matrix touchstyle festival on Friday, May 17th. Other performers include Brian Fresno, and Neon Brown. On Friday, May 24th I will be performing a set at the Experience Music Project (EMP) in Seattle as part of the NW folklife festival.
4/2002 - ADDED PERFORMANCE DATES
Additional spring performance dates have been added. Be sure to check out the performance schedule for all the updates. One notable update is the show scheduled for Saturday, April 6th has been cancelled. On April 13th, I will return to Friend's for a performance there. Sharing the bill is guitarist, singer/songwriter, producer Kelley Vice.
2/2002 - MEMORIAL
I will perform a solo set at the Million Flower Memorial Garden during the 2002 Northwest Flower & Garden Show on Thursday February 7th at 11am. Top flight solo performers will be featured all throughout the show. The memorial garden consecrates the outpouring of flowers brought by 75,000 people to the Seattle Center Flower Vigil following September 11, 2001. Stem by stem, pitchfork by pitchfork, community volunteers at the Interbay P-Patch chopped and mixed the million flowers into compost. The spiral of stone and cedar poles sanctifies this phase. Many hands have labored together, finding hope in nature's ongoing cycles of decay and renewal.
1/2002 - COLLABORATIONS
Two shows will feature sets by both myself and guitarist/producer, Frank Smith. Shows included are: Saturday, February 2nd at The Matrix Coffee House, and Saturday, February 9th at Friend's Coffee & Tea. In the past, Frank and I play solo sets, and also play a few songs together. For the most part, these songs are unrehearsed and based on collective improvisation. You never know what will happen next, and neither do we! For directions and times, see the performance calendar. For additional info on my solo music feel free to poke around and explore this site for my recordings, performance schedule, and other information.
